Taps

Hello Everyone!  Every year, as July 4th draws near, I start to feel more and more patriotic.  I often reflect on the freedoms that we have and take for granted in our country.  This day is a celebration of our Independence.  It is a celebration of the freedoms that thousands of men and women have fought for and continue to fight for.  I am very blessed and lucky to have been born and raised in the United States of America.  I have already begun teaching my son that there are many people across the world that are far less fortunate than us.  He's only 6 1/2 and cannot possibly understand the magnitude of his great fortune.  But as he grows, I hope that he will learn to appreciate all that he has and all that our soldiers have fought and died for.  That these freedoms and rights that we are afforded have come with a price...that of many lives lost.

If you haven't seen this video already, it is worth taking a moment of your day to watch.  This 13 year old girls rendition of Taps gave me chills.  I hope you enjoy it.  If you're not familiar with it, it is a piece of music that was written in honor of our fallen soldiers.

A short break...

Hi Everyone!  Where have I been?  Swamped and over committed for a couple weeks.  I wanted to let you know that I'm ok and haven't disappeared.  I have something new for the CLP Challenge on July 1st so please check back for that.  I'm also going to try to get something done for Independence Day, but if not, I'll definitely be back after the holiday.  We've got two family vacations scheduled back-to-back before then and I've got planning and packing to do.  But, once we return I should get back on schedule.

I hope you're all having a great summer so far :-)

Ciao,

Angie

Just Beachy!

Happy Day Everyone!!!!  OMG!  I can't believe how many days since I've posted something!  My son's last day of school was Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.  I spent all of Monday and Tuesday getting things done that I couldn't easily do with him.  I drove him to school Wed. morning, hung out for some presentations and then took my hubby breakfast.  We live an hour from my son's school so it doesn't make sense for me to go home and then turn around and go back when he has a 1/2 day.  So, one last time before summer break, my hubby and I got to have breakfast together at his office.

Since that day, we've pretty much been entertaining poolside.  It's a lot of fun, but it's also a lot of work.  During the summer, I do a tremendous amount of grocery shopping, grilling and cleaning up after us and guests.  I'm Italian so I brown-up pretty quickly and easily.  My hubby is an englishman (by ancestry) - fair skinned and blue-eyed - and he looks like a lobster in just minutes when under the sun.  I've never burned in my life - thank goodness!  It looks pretty painful.

Anyway, I'm going to do my best to post a new card each week during the summer.  There may be a couple of weeks when I fall short while making my projects for Magnolia Ink.  Right now I'm about to explode with anticipation of the arrival of the Magazine DT package with all of the secret goodies to make my projects.  I can't wait til it gets here and I can get started!  I also can't wait to get my copy of Magnolia Ink "Fun In The Summer Sun"!  I had time to make only one card for it and I have no idea if it made the cut.  I know that not everything the DT makes actually gets in the magazine, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.  Well, there up just a little ;-)

Well, enough chit chat!  Goodness, I feel like I've been gone a long time and have so much to tell you!  Anyway, here's my card...

Just Beachy!
As I mentioned, I have been poolside for several days now so these images were the perfect choice.  I have combined #237 Beach Tilda and #612 Bathing ring.  They must be hot items for summer because I don't see either of them in stock right now at Magnolia-licious.  But, if you contact Diana she can let you know when they will be restocked.  Til then, make sure to check out the wedding collection and get your pre-orders in asap!!!  Diana also has the fab new Magnolia Doohickey Cutting Dies available for pre-order.  They're absolutely gorgeous and I've already ordered all four!  Yay!!!

I'm so into this summer vacation and I'm really loving these bright colors lately.  The dp's are from Echo Park Paper Co's 'Sweet Summertime' collection and they're HOT HOT HOT!  The yellow and red cs is by Bazzill.

The ribbon and button are from my stash.  I used a sweet little sentiment by Whimsy Stamps that just arrived yesterday.  We had some friends over to swim and grill and my girl friend, Tina, must have thought I was nuts when my hubby brought the mail in and handed me two packages.  I knew instantly that they were stamps and was giddy with excitement.  Outsiders just don't understand do they ladies?  I had new Maggies from Diana and new sentiments and flowers from Whimsy Stamps.  It was a wonderful day ;-)  Back to my card...the background around the sentiment was cut with several SU punches.  I used my sewing machine around the image background and then my bobbin thread ran out while sewing the polka dot layer.  I didn't notice it til I had gone all the way around and then decided that I liked the effect.  So, I ran the striped and pin-wheel layers through before threading the bobbin again.

You can see the yellow/blue background surrounding Tilda best in this closeup.  It looks really great in person.  I colored the images using both Copic markers and watercolor with Ranger Distress Inks.  Here's the details:

Copics - E00, 02, 42, RV21, Y11, 15, 21, YR23

Ranger Distress Ink - walnut stain, broken china, tumbled glass, fired brick, spun sugar, scattered straw

That's all I have for today.  Thanks so much for joining me.  I hope you find some time to color!

Ciao,

Angie

Lazy Summer Days...

Happy Wednesday Everyone!!!  I hope you're having a great week so far.  We've been pretty busy around here.  My son's class was scheduled for a beach party field trip on Tuesday and, believe it or not, he didn't want to go.  I think he was all tuckered out from the pool party we had at home on Monday.  So, my hubby called to see if we wanted to meet for lunch at the zoo.  Sounded great to us so off we went.  It took forever to get out the door, but once we got there we had a great time - for the most part.  The weather was beautiful.  Unfortunately, my son had a bit of a meltdown at the end because he wanted to ride the train.  The sun was getting to me after 3 days of being in it and the train was quite a ways away.  I just wanted to get to the car and we were much closer to it than the train.  Once his meltdown started, it was all over for me.  He cried until we got to the car.

Yesterday, I spent the morning doing my not-so-favorite task...accounting.  But, afterwards I was off to my craft room for some much needed 'me time'.  Since the weather has been so gorgeous here lately, I was really in the mood to make a hot summer time card.  I decided to ink up a stamp for the first time.

Here's my card.  I hope you like it...

Lazy Summer Days
I used three Magnolia images on this card:  Tilda with Skipping Rope; #427 Lazy Summer Flowers; and #420 Lazy Summer Days.  These stamps, and many more, are available at Magnolia-licious.

These fun, brightly colored dp's are from the My Mind's Eye - Quite Contrary collection.  The cs is Bazzill.  I cut the image with Nestabilities and then mounted to cs that was also cut with Nestabilities.  You know, I didn't know what Nestabilities were until this year and now it seems that I've become a collector and cannot do without them.  Anyway, the brads and red ribbon are from my collection and I do not know the maker.  The gorgeous yellow polka-dot ribbon was sent to me by my friend Mindy.  I was so excited that I could incorporate it into my card.  She was so sweet to send me a package of some wonderful stamps and embellies and I can't wait to use them all!  Lastly, the flowers are by MS.

As usual, I colored the images with a combination of Copic markers and watercolor with Ranger distress inks.  Here are the details:

Copics - E00, 02, 41, 43, 44, RV21, W00, 1, 3, 5

DI's - black soot, scattered straw, fired brick, forest moss, shabby shutters, pine needles, tumbled glass, walnut stain

That's all I have for today.  Thank you so much for stopping by.  I truly appreciate your time and your generous comments.

Ciao,

Angie

Lil' Miss Muffet...

CLP DT Sketch Challenge

Happy June Everyone!!!  Goodness, I can't believe it's June 1st already!  What a fantastic Memorial Day bash we had at the house yesterday!  It was filled with good friends and family and a ton of fun.  The kids all had a blast in the pool and the adults ate til we couldn't eat any more.  The weather was great, with the exception of an hour or so of rain in the middle, but then the sun came back out and the kids jumped back in the pool.  It was a great day.

Now for some more fun!  Today the CLP Challenge Blog has a fantastic challenge going on thru the end of June.  There are some great prizes if you choose to enter - and I hope you will.  Chelsea has come up with a fantabulous sketch.  I just love working with sketches because it gives me a starting point for my layout.  Sometimes I follow them detail by detail and other times I like to change them up a bit.  This was one of those times.  I took the sketch and rotated it 90 degrees and added some simple embellies.

So I've had this Mo Manning digital image of Miss Muffet for some time now.  I haven't been able to use any of my digi's since our printer adds very faint grey lines to the background and it really bothers me.  For business purposes, it's not a big deal.  But for my cards!!!  No way.  When re-doing my craft room, I took it upon myself to get a small laser printer just so I could print my digi's.  I'm soooooooo happy!!!!!

Here is my version of lil' Miss Muffet.  I hope you like it...

Isn't this one of the sweetest images ever!!!  I was so excited about using it for this challenge.  I had a picture of it in my head and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to execute it.  But, I think she's perfect.  One of my favorites in fact.
The dp's are from BG's Cappella collection and they are just gorgeous.  In case you haven't noticed, I use BG paper a lot.  I absolutely love their paper.  Another favorite of mine.  The cs is SU and Bazzill.  The doily is from my collection and it was originally a 5" square.  I cut it in half, resized it, and placed craft store and MS ribbon over the seam.  The old blue mini roses are by Magnolia and you can get them at Magnolia-licious.  The leaves were cut with a MS leaf punch.  Crystal Stickles were added to the tips of the flowers and leaves for a little sparkle.  I used one of the new Tim Holtz dies to cut the layers on the left.  I used my sewing machine to trim all of the paper layers, however, it shows best around the image.  I really like the finishing touch that a sewing machine adds.

Here's a flat view of the card just cause I think it looks cool :-)  I also think it shows some of the dimension of the card.

I colored the image using both Copic markers and watercolor with Ranger distress inks.  Here's the details:
Copics-  face: E00, 02, RV21;  hair: E41, 43, 44;  spoon: W1, 3

DI's- tattered rose, victorian velvet, aged mahogany, dusty concord, weathered wood, pine needles, antique linen, walnut stain, black soot

That's all I have for today.  Thanks so much for stopping by.  Don't forget to check out the CLP Challenge Blog for the details of the challenge and to see what the other DT girls have come up with.  We've got a very talented group of girls and they always do amazing things.  The best thing about a sketch challenge is seeing what everyone else does with it.  I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Ciao for now,

Angie
